Students
Texas A&M University is dedicated to the discovery, development, communication, and application of knowledge in a wide range of academic and professional fields. As part of its mission, it strives to provide the highest quality undergraduate and graduate programs, and to develop new understandings through research and creativity. It prepares students to assume roles in leadership, responsibility, and service to society. The research experience we seek to provide to graduate students is very much aligned with this vision.

Students Advised through Graduate Committee
At Texas A&M University, the progress of a graduate student is guided and evaluated by an adviser and a graduate committee. Members of the graduate committee are expected to give directions and support for the appropriate developmental and learning goals of the student. The members of the graduate committee also have the obligation of evaluating a graduate student’s academic performance. This is clearly explained in the information provided by the Graduate and Professional School.
The significance of the graduate experience of a particular student is partly determined by the quality, scope, and extent of the interaction with his or her committee members. To facilitate this interaction, we reserve the possibility to ask advisees to present their work during group meetings. Frequent presentations keep people informed about the progress of other students and it gives an opportunity to provide feedback to students about their prospective research directions. By requesting my presence on a committee, a student implicitly agrees to this condition.
